It’s finally here… Welcome Week is upon us!

Congratulations – you’ve made it!

The summer break is over, your bags are (mostly) unpacked and you’re beginning to find your feet in Lancaster – and the week we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Welcome to your 2026 Welcome Week. Whether it’s your first, second or tenth one in Lancaster, we’re here as your Students’ Union to welcome you back and help you get stuck into everything that’s on offer as a Lancaster student.

Welcome Week is your chance to find your people, try something new and discover everything that’s available to you as a Lancaster student. From clubs and societies to college events, free breakfasts and nights at The Sugarhouse, there’s plenty happening across campus and beyond. Here’s what’s coming up this week from your Students’ Union.

Freshers Fairs
To get the best out of your Welcome Week experience, get yourself to our LUSU Freshers Fairs. They are the perfect chance to learn more about what your students’ union provides – from societies and clubs to housing and a student nightclub!

Part One - Activity: Sport & Active Clubs/Socs
Wednesday 30th September 12-4pm, The Great Hall Complex (North Campus) , Accessible Quiet Hour: 11am-noon

LUSU hosts a wide range of sporting, performance and competitive events throughout the year, that wouldn’t be possible without the clubs who form them. From BUCS to showcases, they’re a part of us.

On 30th September, you can find out just how many clubs and active/performance-based societies we have here at LUSU. From American Football to Korfball!

You can learn more about Sport at LUSU here. For sport updates, follow @lusuport.

Part Two - Community: Societies, Culture & Special Interest
Thursday  1st October 2025 12-4pm, The Great Hall Complex (North Campus), Accessible Quiet Hour: 11am-noon

Societies are a huge part of what makes Lancaster so special. Which is why we’re proud to facilitate over 160 of them!

We have societies for almost anything. If you like it, we’ve probably got it. Interests range from theatre and music, all the way to Pokémon and Harry Potter. And they’re a great way to make friends and meet new people.

On 2nd October, you can join us and discover all things societies at LUSU. Get ready to delve into our host of clubs and meet our student media teams!

You can learn more about societies here. For societies events and updates, follow @lususocieties.

Learn more about both days of the fair on our Freshers Fair page, and plan your visit with our Interactive Freshers Fair Map!

Colleges

During Welcome Week, each of the colleges will host their very own Freshers’ events. You can go to as many or as little as you want, and generally college events are open to every student regardless of college affiliation.  Check out the list of College Freshers’ Events here.

LUSU Welcome Breakfasts

Join us from 9am-11am every weekday throughout Welcome Week for a free vegan-friendly breakfast from you Students’ Union. On day one alone, we served 277 people, 600 slices of toast, 162 coffees, 204 juices and 172 jams. Come along, meet your Students’ Union, and start the day right!
