Beware Fake ‘Freshers’ Tickets and Chats
Protect your money and personal details by only accessing official events and accounts provided by your University and Students’ Union.
We want all Lancaster University students to be safe – and for new students that starts even before you arrive.
Over the summer, you may come across ‘Freshers’ social profiles, group chats and link trees that promise they’re ‘100% official’ and that their events are nearly sold out – but they may not be what they seem.
Don’t risk sharing personal details with unofficial accounts or giving away your money for events that may not take place. Instead, follow the simple tips below and make sure that in the run up to Welcome Week, you connect to official University and Students’ Union (LUSU) accounts.
Social accounts and chats
The University’s Welcome site contains a page that introduces University and Students’ Union’s official accounts, including LUSU’s city centre nightclub The Sugarhouse, as well as College and departmental accounts, so you know who to follow. The University also hosts a Unibuddy community where new students can connect before term begins.
Our advice: Follow official accounts and join the Unibuddy community. If you spot any other ‘Freshers’ accounts focused on selling tickets and promoting Whatsapp chats – they’re not ours and you should be extremely cautious.
Events and tickets
The University, Students’ Union and your Colleges arrange official events throughout Welcome Week. They will all be detailed on the Welcome schedule that will be published soon.
Our advice: Fresher’s Events hosted by LUSU or its nightclub, The Sugarhouse, will only be promoted through the Welcome schedule and LUSU’s official channels (@LancasterSU or @The_Sugarhouse on Instagram, the official LUSU website and the Sugarhouse FIXR Events page). Your college may also use its official social accounts to promote events. Be careful of nights out claiming to be official Fresher’s events that don’t come from one of these channels.
