Tired of Bus Fares? Join a Walking Bus!

In August we discovered that Stagecoach had gotten rid of the Terms 1-2-3 unirider bus pass without telling students! As a result, I launched a survey asking students their thoughts and got 1400 responses, in under 3 weeks! Thanks to all the support we received I was able to meet with Stagecoach, the university, and local stakeholders to try and change this.

Whilst I wasn't successful in my first meeting with Stagecoach (and have not been blessed with another meeting), I also held a meeting with students to help decide the next steps for this campaign. So, we began working on finding safe alternatives to accessing campus.

And that is how the walking buses were born!
LUSU’s walking buses run from campus every weekday evening to provide you a safe and community-led route home without getting on a pesky bus!

With the seasons changing, it gets darker a lot earlier in the evening now, so walking home can feel scary or intimidating if you’re alone. But thanks to our walking buses you no longer have to worry!

Walking buses are ran by student volunteers covering routes directly into Lancaster or through Bowerham and to The Gregson. You can spot the walking bus volunteers collecting students in Alex Square in their purple hi-vis jackets!

To find out what time the walking buses are leaving campus, check out the live timetable here.

Pick a route that suits you and join in the bus boycott!
