The Animals Keeping You Safer on a Night Out
Amidst the drinking, the partying, the confusing bar crawls, and the questionable club tunes, you might have seen a drink with a picture of an animal over the top.
It seems silly that a jumping dolphin, with a fun fact written underneath, might actually save your night, but for many, it did! Or maybe it simply sparked a conversation.
These are the new cup covers that I introduced across the city during Welcome Week! These work on all varieties of drinks, including bottles, cups, cans, and also includes a QR code of what to do if a friend gets spiked.
Across 10 bars in Lancaster, I gave out, at least, 100 cup covers or bottle stoppers each. This list includes:
Sugarhouse
Generation
Kanteena
Greens
Molley O’Malleys
Pendle Witch
Wetherspoons (Sir Richard Owen)
Mint
The Gilded Lily
Hogarths
Having spoken to students and bar managers after Welcome Week, many of them ran out due to the number of people that used them, which is great to hear!
On meeting these bars, I also provided them with QR codes for you to be able to report any concerns on your night out!
Sugarhouse will continue to provide cup covers and bottle stoppers on request, but for the rest of the bars, I’m hoping to work with businesses, the council, and the police to ensure that we can make these permanent across the city.
