Training Information

All our membership fees include kit hire and coaching. That is, you can but won't need to bring your own kit and we will offer the opportunity to improve your skill. We have two Men’s and Women’s team in the BUCS Leagues (the inter-university league), so whether you want to fence competitively or for recreation, this club is for you! The annual club membership fee is £55.

Our weekly training sessions take place in the sports centre on:

  • Mondays 20:00-22:00
  • Thursdays 18:00-20:00
  • Sundays 15:30-18:00

Matches take place on Wednesdays with alternating home and away matches (first teams' travel costs funded by the club). Coaching at Lancaster University Fencing club is held in high regard. For instance, our Foil and Epee coach is Mike Thornton, a Cat B FIE Referee. Beyond coaching our training sessions provide a lot of opportunity to improve your skills beyond advice from senior fencers within the club. For instance, Sunday session includes a 30mins joint footwork session across all weapons where you will improve your technique, build strength and coordination to bring the two together.

Overall, our trainings provide a great atmosphere for a mixture of competitive training and fun. So come along and join us!

Our Novice Course sessions (for complete beginners) run through all fo first term every Saturday 12:00-14:00pm.

How do I become a member?

To be a member you can join on the SU site here. We have different options for paying, you can either pay for each term or pay for the full year at a slightly cheaper price overall as can be seen below. The membership fees allow us to run the club by paying for our BF affiliation fees, training and bringing in coaches and to buy and maintain kit for you to use.

These payments are made online, if you are not able to pay online please contact the Treasurer as soon as possible.

It is important to know that members are required to have a membership with the sport center which you can get here and when competing in any competitions, including team matches you need British Fencing Membership which can be obtained here
