What is the Election Process?
Byelaw 8, the Election Byelaw outlines the Election rules and regulations and must be adhered to at all times.
Nominations: -Anyone wishing to stand for nomination must complete a nomination form; you must be proposed and seconded by two full members of the Union in order to stand. You can request a nomination form from the General Secretary.
Hustings/Question Time: - This event takes place on the day nominations close; it is your chance to ask any of the candidate’s questions, Why would they be suitable? What experience do they have? What would they hope to achieve in the position?
Campaign: - At the closure of the Hustings/Question Time, campaigning begins and they will be out to get your vote. Campaigning lasts right up until the day of voting.
Voting: - For college JCR elections, voting takes place in your JCR porters lodge and the voting for the GSA elections voting takes place in the Library. Non Sabbatical Voting takes place in every college so when you vote for college JCR, make sure you vote Non Sabbatical.
Results: - Results for the elections will be published the following day within the Union except sabbatical elections which are published on the night.
