We're sending special packs to every LUSU Living home to help our students cope in the event of an emergency.

The packs contain a clockwork torch, an analogue landline phone (in case of a major power cut) and a basic first aid kit.

Students' union Vice-President Welfare Dave Whitlock said: "When Storm Desmond hit Lancaster last winter, homes in the city were left without power for up to three days.

"With winter approaching, we're putting emergency packs in all of our homes to ensure that our tenants are as prepared as they can be if something goes wrong."

The packs will be sent to every shared house managed by LUSU Living. Tenants are advised to keep their emergency pack in a safe place (such as under the kitchen sink) soit can be found easily if needed.
