Three Lancaster Students travelled to Tasmania, climbed The Candle Stick Sea Stack, made a film about it, entered it into a competition and won!

Matt Amos, Ben Cianchi and Jonathan Doyle took a trip to Tasmania in January of this year and while they were there took on the challenge of climbing The Candle Stick, a sea stack off the coast of the Tasman Peninsula.

While taking on the climb Matt, Jonathan and Ben, all members of the Mountaineering Club, filmed their experience and entered a competition to have their film shown at the UKs biggest adventure film festival, Kendal Mountain Festival.

Jonathan said they really weren’t expecting to win and didn’t really know what to expect when making the climb. “We didn't really know what to expect when we decided to try to summit the sea stack, we just saw it in the guide book and thought that it looked like a proper adventure.”

The three are all experienced climbers and said it was the best day of their lives so far,  “It turned out to be the most intense and committing day we've ever had, in hindsight, while we did plan the day as best as we could, I do think we underestimated the complexity and seriousness of what we set out to do. However, we survived and had easily the best day of our lives so far!”

You can watch the full film, titled The Pommish Invasion: The Candle Stick, Tasmania below.
