Trustees are the people who form the governing body or ‘board’ of a charity. They are the people with ultimate responsibility for directing the business of the charity. Most trustees are volunteers, and receive no payment (except minor expenses).Our Board of Trustees is currently made up of a mix of students, elected officers and external people who can offer a different perspective and expertise.
Full Time Officer Trustees (Serve for the period of their officership)
The President and the 5 Vice Presidents of LUSU all serve as Trustees and the President also chairs all meetings.

External Trustees (Serve for an initial appointment of 2 or 3 years)
LUSU has four external Trustees at anyone time. These are people from outside of the Union and University who can offer expertise and guidance and help LUSU maximise its potential. Currently serving are:
- Sir Bill Taylor is an Alumnus of Lancaster after graduating in Politics, Education and Trade Union Studies in 1973, and gaining an MA in Education in 1985. Sir Bill career was based in youth and community work. He has been a detached worker, centre based, area focused and a school based youth tutor. Latterly he was a youth and community work trainer and manager in multi-ethnic Blackburn for 22 years and neighbouring more rural Ribble Valley for 11 years.
- Tom Cheesewright is currently Strategy Director of ‘And Digital’ a Marketing and Advertising Agency and was previously a full time officer of LUSU, being General Secretary in 1998.
- Jacqueline Whiteside, served as Lancaster University Librarian, Director of the then Centre for North- West Regional Studies and the University’s career service (now CEEC). She has a wealth of experience and knowledge about how the institution works and a keen interest in the student experience.
- Nicola Daley, is currently employed as Chief Executive of Merseyside Expanding Horizons which is a voluntary sector organisation promoting social inclusion. She graduated from Lancaster in 1990 and has a wealth of experience and knowledge of issues surrounding Equality & Diversity , fundraising, business planning and finnacial planning.
