Anna Kettle

Hi, I’m Anna and I’m currently a second year Politics and Philosophy student. I have spent the last year as President of Lancaster Debating Union, one of the largest and most competitively successful societies on campus. I am also the current Welfare Officer for Women+ Forum, a director of the Vagina Monolancs, LGBTQ+ officer for the North and Midlands Debating Association, and sit on the university’s Societies Committee.

My experience on a wide range of execs and committees has given me a deep understanding not only of the problems faced by many of the different groups on campus, from liberation to competitive, but also of some of the ways in which policy can be implemented and support can be provided from the administrative side for our student groups.

If I were elected, I would commit to change in these areas:

  1. Improved accessibility for sports and society groups on campus.

    • Access scheme funding for societies

    • Improved support for disabled sports

    • Increased storage space

    • Improved access to university spaces and equipment for college teams and bar sports.

  2. A better and safer community for women and minorities in sport.

    • Women+ only gym groups

    • Women+ only ‘Give It a Go’ sessions

    • #ThisRosesGirlCan

  3. Improved welfare in sports and societies on campus.

    • Consent and diversity training

    • Improved welfare reporting and support

  4. More diversity and clarity of communications.

    • The inclusion of student media in sports and societies committees

    • Increased face to face communications

    • Increased transparency around funding, timetabling and transport

    • More specific support for academic societies

    • Continue to work alongside the VP Education to utilise student engagement through sports and societies as a tool for retention
