Media and CultureWhat I do and how I can be of help:
Women's Officer acts as a diverse Liberation officer and strives towards many campaigns that include people from all walks of life. I foreground the importance of woman's representation within male dominated areas at university, whilst keeping a bit of turf in the union as a friendly confidential space for women. I am here to guarantee this space within LUSU for women who may face problems be it sexual/assault, pregnancy or mental health, I will be here to help you. By working towards increasing diversity within the union itself we shall challenge the broad field of women’s inequality, whether it takes place in the workplace or takes the form of violence towards women; it will not and should not be tolerated. I am here to campaign and raise awareness of Women’s subordination and discrimination in society and to create networks to fight against inequality by communicating with your JCR, elected LUSU liberation officers and the students themselves. Please feel free to ring me on the number above or email me and pop down to my office if you need any help of any kind.
If you are curious or still not too sure about what I do, again please pop down to my wonderful, cosy office. Men are more than welcome to come down and help with campaigns and find out more.
What do you hope to achieve with your year in office?
To get you guys and girls involved in a proactive movement to end discrimination towards Women. Look out for the many campaigns taking place this year. The aim is to educate and motivate a stance against crimes such as rape, violence and abuse and to inform women about their rights out there in the big world.A feminist society, for all students who want to get involved, will be launched and a Women’s Group set-up with cakes, chit chat and other fun in a child friendly environment.
To make sexual health advice more accessible and to encompass the needs of LGBT students within the nurse unit. The Vagina Monologues will be the show of the year, so keep your eyes peeled for audition dates in 1st term!
To see what else I’m up to, email or pop down to the office to see my amazing ‘What’s going on’ chart!
