Improving your University experience

LUSU is here to ensure that your University experience is the best that it can possibly be. We offer a range of services, from our Advice Centre, to The Sugarhouse and this very web site, to ensure that you receive the best advice, the best value and the best representation.

The 6 sabbatical officers that are elected on a cross campus ballot by you are here to ensure that the LUSU mission statement is adhered to. LUSU strives to enhance the Lancaster experience for all of its students.

The LUSU building can be found off Alexandra Square underneath the LUSU Shop and next to the LUSU Housing Office.

As a student at Lancaster University, you are automatically a member of the Students' Union, LUSU. The Union is responsible for most things at the University not related to academia or residence, so if you ever become a member of a society, go and watch a film on campus, take part in an organised sport, attend a college event or, indeed, attend freshers week, you are having an experience the union has a part in organising, financing, or managing.

It is run by a body of students elected as officers to deal with specific aspects of the union, as well as being administered by a core of full-time staff. The Union is there to:

a) Represent you, the student, and your needs and views. This ranges from organising demos against top-up fees outside the houses of Parliament to liasing with the University over issue affecting the student body.

b) Provide services, including such diverse facilities as welfare support, free contraception if you so need it, and an essay bank to aid your studies.

c) Provide entertainments and organised sports and societies. The Sugarhouse, the JCRs, the on-campus cinema and radio station are all part managed by LUSU.

So as you can see, it's a useful and unique part of university life. Want to get involved? Want to know more? Then read on…
