Vagina Monologues

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual slavery.

Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. In 2006, over 2000 V-Day benefit events were presented by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.

Every year, at Lancaster University, a group of women get together and perform the Vagina Monologues. No experience in acting is required; the other request is that you are enthusiastic! You don’t have to perform in the Monologues; we need help with fundraising and publicity as well. If you are interested in getting involved with the 2008 production of the ‘Vagina Monologues’ in any way, then contact the Women’s Officer on su-womens@lancaster.ac.uk or ext 92197.

All the money raised from Lancaster University's production of the Vagina Monologues, as well as the fundraising events around V-Day will go to charities dedicated to stop violence against women: Half of our funds will be donated to the Lancaster District Women's Aid, and the other half will be donated to the Lancaster University Students' Union Domestic Violence Fund.
