Harassment is an issue that Lancaster University and LUSU take very seriously and will not tolerate. Harassment can be broadly defined as any behaviour which is offensive, intimidating or hostile; which interferes with an individuals scholastic performance or full enjoyment of their university experience: or induces conformity, stress anxiety, fear or sickness on the part of the stressed individual.

Harassment can take many different forms: persistent teasing, unwanted personal comments, constant unfounded criticism or bullying, assault threats or persistent invasive behaviour. If it is upsetting you then it is a problem and you should seek help.

ALL STUDENTS HAVE A RIGHT TO LEARN AND SOCIALISE WITHOUT FEAR OF DISCRIMINATION OR HARASSMENT.

Any harassment should be reported to the women's officer, Disabilities officer, Race relation's officer, LGBT officer, International Students officer, Mature Students officer or an adviser in the Advice Centre. Alternatively, the university has a well established 'harassment network'. A web-link to the university harassment site containing information and contacts and be found in the LUSU Advice section under the heading 'Helplines and websites'. Any of the above people will be able to offer you support relating to harassment. All incidences of harassment will be treated seriously and in confidence. These people will listen to your problem and advise you on a course of action, either formal or informal. All advice is given in the strictest confidence and nobody will force you into a course of action you are unhappy with.
