Transport is an issue for Athletic Union Clubs particularly where they are required to use minibuses. Here are some frequently asked questions relating to this matter. If you have any other questions that are not answered on this site then please email Caroline Jenkinson and they can be added.

Are there any minibuses available for the AU sports clubs to use?

Yes because the AU budget funds the leasing of up to three minibuses that are kept on campus throughout termtime

We are able to hire extra minibuses from Marshalls however there may be a cost to the AU Club and this will be depend on why the bus is needed.

There is no charge for the use of the leased minibuses apart from the fuel used on your journey. If you have to hire a minibus from Marshalls or a car from Enterprise then you will need to pay for this by providing Caroline with a claim form signed by two of your signatories.

* The driver must have taken the university assessment

* Register with Caroline Jenkinson (Sports Co-ordinator)

You will need to book it with Chris Wadden who works in the University Safety Office, which is situated in Bowland Annexe (the group of offices above Uni Travel in the square)and the following criteria apply.

* You must be at least 21 years old

* You must be in possession of a UK driving licence

* You must have at least two years driving experience

* You must have no endorsements on your licence

* You must be able to provide the paper copy of your driving licence

There are two forms one for the hire of one of the three leased minibuses (green) and one for the hire of a minibus/car or van from a hire company. These are always available from the Student Activities Office and should be completed and returned in advance of the booking. It is advisable to do this at least a week beforehand and longer than that if possible.

You will be expected to drive a minibus on local roads and a stretch of the motorway for approximately 2 hours

It will take place during either a morning or afternoon during the week

If it is for a social or tour then you should ring round the various companies to obtain the best price. The AU use Battersby's Silver Grey Telephone: 01524 380000 and Travellers Choice Telelphone: 01524 720033 but there are others.

If it is for a sporting fixture/competition then Caroline will do this but she will need information relating to the journey preferably a week before you need it.

If it is for a sporting competition that requires you to pay all or part costs then you will need to provide Caroline with a claim form signed by both your signatories to allow her to pay the invoice.

If it is for tour or a social then you will need to order the coach using an official order form available from the Student Activities Finance Assistant. Please remember when doing this you must have sufficient funds in your CLub account to cover the hire cost. It is advisable to collect monies from all individuals travelling before you book the coach otherwise you may find you have insufficient funds to cover the cost of the hire.
