The organisation and the events run by societies are the responsibility of the executives of the individual societies. All societies, however, are bound by LUSU policies to ensure equal opportunities and a safe inclusive environment for their members.
All societies are members of The Societies Union, which is part of LUSU's democratic structure and is the primary body representing societies within LUSU. Societies Union meets at least once a term to discuss issues affecting societies, to pass policy affecting LUSU's interaction with societes, and to elect the Societies Union Executive Committee ("SUEC"), a sub-committee of Societies Union that makes decisions on behalf of all societies between meetings of the Societies Union. A representative from each society must attend Societies Union.
All Societies are also members of one of the steering groups, each representing a different type of society. Steering groups are each chaired by a rep, who is a member of the SUEC with responsibility for that group of societies. The steering groups meet as determined by their chair (societies can of course request a meeting by contacting their rep).
If you have ideas on how to improve the way societies work, or if you have issues you feel the Societies Union should discuss, please contact the Societies Non Sabbatical Officer, who is chair of Societies Union and the SUEC. The Societies Non Sabbatical Officer also represents all societies on Union Council, the primary decision making body within LUSU.
