Who we are
Our team of staff are dedicated to helping you make the most of your time at University, through creating unique volunteering opportunities for you to engage with. We aim to produce high quality projects that benefit our students and the community as well as improve your skills, enhance your student experience and progress your employability.
Take part in our schools outreach projects, engaging with local pre-schools, colleges, primary and secondary schools through placements, inspiration days and action projects.
Get involved in projects within local community organisations, making the most of your skills, passions and experiences to assist them in their day to day actions and to develop new activities and events.
Engage in environmental volunteering, through our regional and national partnerships, were you can volunteer with environmental and conservation organisations to make a difference, meet new people and have loads of fun in the process!
We have a range of events volunteering opportunities for the campus event, such as Christmas Markets and Campus Fest, that we run across the academic year. You can get involved in planning and developing events or just helping out on the day.
We have established close collaborations with academic departments, community organisations and local schools to create bespoke projects that have clear benefits for all parties. If you are interested in getting involved in any of the opportunities above, please clink on the relevant web page or get in contact with our team. If you are already a volunteer you’ll find useful information in the My Union pages
If you are a school or community organisation and would like to work with us, please read the following information:
If you would like student volunteers to support activities at your school, or if you would like to hold an activity day on campus with our volunteers and staff, then please contact Carla Lockwood to discuss how we can support your ideas. We work with pupils of all ages and abilities and can offer fun, engaging and educational events both on campus and in school on a regular or one-off basis.
Have a look at our schools brochure for more information.
For community organisations
We work with organisations of all sizes, from small local community organisations, to large national charities. If you are a group or organisation based in the UK that would like student volunteers to support your projects, activities and work in this country, please complete this online form.
In order to advertise roles through LUSU, they need to be based in the UK, challenging and provide opportunities to develop skills and experiences that will enhance student’s future employability. We have a great understanding of what types of volunteering opportunities students want to undertake, their skills, and their availability. In order to match volunteers with opportunities, we require you to complete all sections of the volunteer role description. You will also be required to provide all relevant risk assessments of the volunteer role completed by the community organisation (templates can be provided if needed).
Once we have this information about your organisation, Kate Jackson our Community Engagement Coordinator, will be in touch to discuss how we can work with you and arrange the health and safety appraisal.
