What does a Full Time Officer do?

In Week Eight Lent Term you will have the opportunity to elect your new Full Time Officer team!

The Full Time officer team are six officers who work full time for students at Lancaster University to support them in their time at University. Each of the officers has a different role in representing your interests throughout the Students’ Union and to the University.

Ever thought of working for a year as an officer? The information below will give you an insight into the kinds of things our Full Time Officer Team do and how you could be one of them!

You don’t have to have had previous experience as an officer to be a Full Time Officer. These positions are open to any student who is a full member of LUSU, you can even take a year out from your course to work in one of these positions. 

The Full Time Officer Team:

President:

Responsible for the overall lead of the strategic development of the Student’s Union; leading officers, policy, finance, University Liaison and Chair of the Trustee Board.

Vice President: Events & Democracy

Works with students to co-ordinate socials and large scale events, such as Grad Ball and Campus Festival, and liaises with our commercial services. The VP Event & Democracy also co-ordinates our elections and democratic processes and delivers officer training. They deal with the day-to-day finances of LUSU, providing support for officers and students.

Vice President: Academic

Deals with all academic related issues for all students, ensuring that the student voice is heard by the university and that changes are always in your best interests. The VP Academic coordinates departmental reps and forums which influence policy.

Vice President: Equality, Welfare & Diversity

Leads on issues relating to equality, welfare and diversity for students including internationalisation, liberation and initiation of new welfare services within the Students’ Union. The VP EWD supports welfare officers with cross campus campaigns on issues that affect students.

Vice President: Activities

Ensures that all LUSU’s groups (of which there are nearly 170!) are all working well and getting the best experience possible. The VP Activities is also the lead officer for the Roses Tournament, one of the largest intervarsity tournaments in Europe. The VP Activities works to support the formation of new societies and sports clubs and supports them in their day to day activities.

Vice President: Media and Communications

Facilitates and supports the work of all the media organisations that are associated with LUSU. He is also responsible for the production of SCAN our student newspaper. The VP Media and Communications works to support the work of groups such as Bailrigg FM and LA1:TV

How do I become an officer?

You can nominate yourself for any of these positions from 9am on Friday 17th Feb until  4pm on Friday 24th Feb (Week 6)

You will then be able to campaign for 2 weeks, talking to students and engaging with the people you will represent. At the end of week 8 there will be 3 days of voting and you will find out if you have been elected!
