Former students’ union Vice-President (Campaigns & Communications) Katie Capstick has landed a role working for the UN in China and has already had chance to get involved in loads of interesting projects.

Katie, who completed an undergraduate degree and a Masters in Media & Cultural Studies at Lancaster, is now living in Beijing after securing an internship with UN Women.

The role involves blogging, copywriting and speechwriting as part of a number of projects including anti-domestic violence work, climate change initiatives and solidarity movements.

Katie said: “Leaving Lancaster can be a daunting experience, especially if you have settled there for just short of five years. The idea of moving out of my comfort zone and applying for jobs was extremely scary for me. But after I saw the internship advertisement on the UN Women Asia and Pacific website, I decided to utilise my experience that I had gained whilst being a student and officer at Lancaster.

“My experience as the union’s VP Campaigns and Communications and my involvement in the Women’s Liberation Forum helped me land a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
