A new student-led social enterprise aims to boost cooperative work between students and community organisations in and around Lancaster.

U Social Venture aims to bring a range of people in society together to create positivity in our communities through commercial enterprise. They do this by offering students various opportunities to work with social enterprises and make a real difference in their communities.

Co-founder Lydia Ratto said: “When I learned about social enterprises, I thought they were a fantastic concept and approach to sustaining our society and environment. It also made me very surprised to see the lack of attention around it on campus, compared to charity and entrepreneurial work. I was inspired to create an established community that could inspire students to use their skills to make a positive difference, as well as providing and supporting a network for all societies, groups and individuals with an interest in social enterprise.”

U Social Venture has a wide-ranging number of projects coming up that involve event management, project planning and working with organisations that work with care homes, disabled members of the community and the LGBT community.
