Students are constantly coming up with new ideas for societies – and among the latest crop awaiting approval is a Lego Society.

Although created with children in mind, Lego building has become a popular hobby for people of all ages.

Led by ‘Master Builder’ Oscar Thynne, more than 15 people are already eager to be part of an official Lancaster Lego Society.

Oscar (pictured) said: “The thing I love about Lego is that it brings together so many themes and genres. You can do anything with Lego.”

There are already plans in place for loads of Lego-based activities and events, including weekly building sessions. The society will be holding competitive events as well as socials for people to meet up and collaborate on projects. It is hoped that members will be able to collaborate with other societies, such as Dr Who or Harry Potter, that have a connection to the Lego world.

Oscar said: “We’re open to collaboration with any other society – we’re really trying to break down barriers for people.”

A number of Welcome Week events are also being planned, including an open building session and a Lego treasure hunt.

The union’s Societies Exec will meet later in the summer vacation to consider applications for new societies and allocate funding.
