NUS Conference 2017: Media delegate

Lancaster University Students’ Union is currently taking applications for the positions of media delegate to this year’s National Union of Students’ National Conference. Anyone is welcome to apply and experience in the student media is not necessary.

 

What’s on offer?

The media delegate will attend the three-day NUS National along with the LUSU President and three elected conference delegates. The Conference runs from 25 - 27 April 2017 – The Brighton Centre, Brighton

The National Conference is the NUS’s policy-making conference. Delegates elected by students’ unions will debate motions covering how the NUS should respond to challenges within further and higher education and the wider world.

The media delegate will report these debates using a mix of internet-based technologies, including live Tweeting and blogging. They will be supported in the run up to the conference by the LUSU communications team.

All travel, accommodation and meal expenses can be covered.

 

Role description and responsibilities

The role will require you to source, co-ordinate and edit LUSU’s coverage of the NUS National Conference. You will be expected to provide at least one report at the end of each day detailing Conference and delegate activities, which will be factually accurate, well researched and of interest Lancaster students.

The role will also require you to:

Live Tweet where possible from the LUSU at NUS Twitter account

•          Remain impartial and free from bias.

•          Work closely with the LUSU Communications team and Vice President (Campaigns and Communications) and keep them informed and up-to-date on the progress of reports.

•          Arrange interviews with the LUSU delegates and other people of interest, such as the NUS President and NUS Full Time Officer candidates.

•          Organise photography for reports.

 

Applicants should be motivated, confident and have excellent organisational and communication skills. They should be able to demonstrate a good understanding the politics and infrastructure of the NUS.

Applicants wishing to apply for a position should send a personal statement to the LUSU Vice President (Campaign and Communications) (mailto:lusu.vp.communications@lancaster.ac.uk) in which they should highlight their experience, suitability and vision for the role.  This statement should be a maximum of 500 words.
