What does the PG Board do?

The Postgraduate Board are the elected representative body for all members of the Graduate College, including students who live off campus. The Board holds open forums each term for all PGR and PGT students to discuss issues affecting their study and time at Lancaster University. Members of Graduate College elect members of the board in week three Michaelmas term. They run events and socials, hold campaigns and ensure the representation for Postgraduates at Lancaster University.

Why are the PG Board elected so early?

The PG Board is elected at the start of the academic year due to the different time scale of Postgraduate study which is usually September to September, and generally for Postgraduate Taught students is a yearlong course. This way there is a full PG Board active for the full year.

Can I be on the PG Board?

Yes! If you are a Postgraduate student you can nominate yourself to be on the Postgraduate board. To nominate yourself for International Officer, Part Time Students Officer or one of the PGR or PGT positions you must fit into those groups. For example, if you are a UK home student you can’t run to be International Officer.

What do I have to do to nominate myself?

Nominations open Monday 10th October at 10am which you will be able to do online. We will send out an email to all Postgraduates when this is available.

What next?

In week 2 you will be able to campaign, this will involve giving a short speech or hust detailing why you should be elected into this position. You will be sent a campaigns briefing email that will tell you what else you should or could do.

Voting

Voting will open on Wednesday 19th October at 10am and will close Friday 21st October at 4pm (Week 2). An email will be sent to all Postgraduate students with voting information. It is quick and simple online processes so don’t worry if you aren’t on campus for those 3 days.
