A special celebration event takes place on campus on Friday as part of work by Lancaster students to mark Black History Month.

Students from the African Caribbean Society, Ethnic Diversity Committee, Lancaster University Management School and ‘Why is My Curriculum White?’ have worked with One Love Radio to host Black Excellence.

The day-long networking event, held in the Management School Hub, will showcase black-owned businesses and future business leaders, feature performances from the Hip Hop & Breakdance Society, The Melanin Mob dance crew and DJ Cawky. There’ll also be free food and an exclusive screening of Keep Calm, a new documentary exploring race relations.

Organisers say: “Our aim for the day is to celebrate the African diaspora of the UK by creating a network in which to unite the black community of this nation.

"Lancaster University is gradually increasing its diverse studentship, as well as the Management School hosting hundreds of students from a multitude of backgrounds. We invite you to attend our event, it does not matter what your background is as you long as you are excited to help us celebrate Black History Month together."
