Students set to support charities and develop skills via Colleges Charity Challenge

More than 50 students from Lancaster’s nine colleges are taking part in the University’s first Colleges Charity Challenge this term.

Look out for details of your college team’s activities and give them your support!

The challenge
College teams were invited to see how they can make a difference to a charity of their choice, through either an awareness campaign, fundraising or volunteering.

Several of the teams invited other students in their colleges to vote for a preferred charity to support, via online voting polls.

The charities chosen include Lancaster and Morecambe Asylum and Refugee Support (Cartmel), Defying Dementia (County, Pendle), The A21 Campaign (Furness), Wolfwood (Fylde), Alzheimer’s Society (Grizedale) and Lancashire Mind (Lonsdale).

Following a launch event on 7th February, at which students were given support by Shelley Morgan from Careers and Joe Bourne from LUSU, teams are now underway with their plans to carry out a range of engaging and beneficial activities over the next few weeks.

Skills development and reward
Participating students also receive support for translating their experiences on the challenge into Lancaster Award points and content for their CVs.

Students completing the challenge will receive a certificate and invitation to a Charity Challenge celebration event on 9th May.
