Members of Lancaster University Badminton joined the LUSU overseas exchange with Sunway University with the aim to start to build a sport and society partnership with the University and students there.

During the day the team participated in the usual exchange activities; learning about Malaysian culture, language, politics and food.  Most evenings the team joined Sunway badminton team for training and matches, then explored more Malaysian food with them.

Women’s Captain Emily Bryson said, “We loved having the opportunity to experience Malaysia and learn more about the country. We had a great opportunity to play badminton at a high level, make great new friends and have our own private tour guides on the best places to eat (and the food recommended was incredible, always from random street restaurants!) We are extremely sad to leave and can't wait to return”.

Emily said highlights were playing badminton in some fantastic venues and commented on how much the rest of the team enjoyed it, “Adam looked like a kid at Christmas every time we played!” Other highlights included seeing amazing places; Batu Cave, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Government Buildings.

With hopes for similar trips in the future for other teams, Emily said,  â€śWe took the first step in hopefully a great sport and society partnership. We added lots of value to their badminton team as they really enjoyed having us. Hopefully we've proven more teams can go in the future and replicate our trip.”
