A project involving 34 student volunteers working with 11 local primary schools has been Highly Commended in the Children and Young People Now Awards.
The Creative Arts project was coordinated by LUSU involve, the UK’s biggest and most successful university volunteering unit and enabled 244 pupils from schools including West End, Trumacar, Morecambe Bay, Skerton St Lukes, Ridge, Bowerham, Willow Lane, Skerton St Joseph’s and Caton Community to engage in a large scale art project.
The project was Highly Commended in the category of Arts and Culture which is for projects that inspire children and young people in cultural activities, such as music, dance, drama or the visual arts.
Speaking after the Event, Carys Nelkon of LUSU involve said “We are over the moon to be highly commended for such a prestigious award, with so many worthwhile projects making the shortlist, it was fantastic to see so much good work happening country-wide. We are very proud of our Creative Arts project and it is all the hard work volunteers put in last year that made the project a success”
